The Galápagos penguin is the only penguin located on the equator, and the only type to live in Charles Darwin’s old stomping ground, the Galápagos. Lovers not fighters, they coexist peacefully with a number of other species, including the blue-footed booby and the Galápagos brown pelican.

1. Galápagos penguins are monogamous, and will preen each others feathers throughout the day. They even have their own version of an eskimo kiss, tapping their bills together to show affection!
2. They walk about in a slightly hunched way (and not just when they’re moody either). Their feet are very sensitive to the sun, so they shade them with their bodies.
