The Bornean pygmy elephant might look like a big cute baby — huge ears, pot belly, long tail — but they’re actually descended from royalty (sort of). It is thought that the Bornean pygmy elephants of today are remnants of a domesticated herd owned by the Sultan of Sulu, who then released them into the wild.

Today, the pygmy elephants of Borneo are the smallest elephants in Asia.
