    Description

Don’t just whine-o, help save the rhino!

We all know how the rhinoceros got its skin (long story short: don’t leave your skin unattended on a beach), but now’s your chance to help them keep their future as well.

Hunted throughout India and southeast Asia for their horn by poachers, the Javan rhino is under further threat from deforestation and climate change. If we don’t act now, these gentle giants will soon go the way of the dinosaur – and that’s where you come in.

Buy this stylish wildlife t-shirt featuring a gorgeous geometric design of the Javan rhino, and 50% of the proceeds will go to Save The Rhino, a charity committed to preserving all five species of rhino existing in the wild.

    Meet The Javan Rhino

    Scientific Name: Rhinoceros sondaicus

Also Known As: Lesser one-horned rhinoceros, Sunda rhinoceros

    Type: Mammal

    Diet: Herbivore

    Status: Critically endangered

    Population: Around 60

Habitat: Lowland rainforests, grasslands, reed beds, floodplains

Location: Ujung Kulon National Park, Java

    Threats:

    • Loss of habitat due to deforestation and human settlements
    • Poaching for their horns

Big, grey, iconic, the Javan rhino is a sight to behold… if you can find them. Entirely extinct in Vietnam and with populations levels unbelievably in double-figures, it looks like the end for them — unless we act now.

    Facts for your friends

    1. Javan rhinos had existed in Cambodia in the past, and there are depictions of them carved into the temple of Angkor Wat. One shows them being ridden by the fire god Agni, which is a lot more badass than a horse.
    2. What do they use their horns for? Fighting? Storing their bangle collection? Nope! They actually just use them to scrape away mud. Tidy.
    3. Javan rhinos never notice if your hair looks bad due to their poor eyesight — but they do have a keen sense of smell, so be sure to wash it anyway.
    4. The word rhinoceros comes from the Greek words for nose (rhin) and horn (keras).

    Meet Save The Rhino

Save The Rhino is devoted to conserving populations of rhinos in the wild. They accomplish this by working with regional conservation networks to exchange support and information aimed at sustaining existing rhino populations. On top of this, they work to raise awareness of their efforts, engaging and inspiring positive action to support our planet’s rhinos.

So where does your donation go? Your donation will fund anti-poaching campaigns by supporting rangers and canine units across the region. It also goes towards educating communities in how they can help protect rhino populations in their area.
