Description
A world without rhinos? Not on our watch!
Despite their huge horns and tough exterior, black rhinos are actually herbivorous, and are also quite curious and gentle. And for a big fella, this guy sure can run. Black rhinos have been known to reach speeds of 55 km per hour. But unfortunately, they can’t outrun the illegal wildlife trade that has reduced their population to less than 5,400.
We want to change that. When you buy this organic cotton t-shirt featuring a stylish geometric black rhino design, we’ll donate 50% of the profits to Save The Rhino. They’re dedicated to saving the black rhino population, and when you buy this t-shirt, you can help.

A world without Black Rhinos could become a reality in our lifetime.
The African Black Rhino’s status is critically endangered, with only about 5000 left in the wild. Due to the black rhino horn being a popular ingredient in Chinese medicine, poachers have been illegally killing them for centuries, and now a world without black rhinos could be our harsh reality.

Meet The Black Rhinoceros
Scientific Name: Diceros bicornis
Also Known As: Eastern black rhinoceros, East African black rhinoceros
Type: Mammal
Diet: Herbivorous
Status: Critically endangered
Population: Around 5000
Habitat: Deserts, grasslands, woodlands
Location: eastern and southern Africa
Threats:
- Poaching for their horn for use in Asian folk remedies
- Political instability and war affecting existing conservation efforts
They hate being told it (especially on their birthday), but rhinos are one of the oldest groups of mammals, even being described by some as “living fossils” — although we doubt there’s a Hallmark card for that. Previous conservation efforts specifically for the black rhino has led to vast swathes of land being created for them. This has in turn led to more space for a variety of other species to become neighbours, including the charming elephant.
Facts for your friends:
- Black rhinos choose one place to poo, then always poo there. We assume they also check Facebook or do a crossword while they do too.
- Size don’t mean a thang, baby. They might look hefty, but the black rhino can reach speeds of up to 56kph!
- Live by the horn, die by the horn. Around 50% of male black rhinos meet their end by fighting. Men, right?
- A group of rhinos is called a ‘crash’. So if a group of them ever interrupt a showing of the eponymous 2004 film, you’ll be okay saying that a crash crashed Crash.
